Patient Participation Group

We are looking for patients to join our new Patient Participation Group. A number of patients have already expressed an interest in getting involved but we are keen for more patients to sign up.

The Patient Participation Group will work closely with the Doctors and Practice Manager to enable patients to provide feedback on a range of health related issues.

Meetings will be held on a monthly basis at the surgery and there will be an opportunity for you to get involved in the larger Borderline Commissioning Custer Patient Group if you wish to.

Simon Stitson, Practice Manager at Jenner Health Centre, said: “We are very pleased to be establishing this patient group as they help us work with our patients to improve the health and wellbeing of the community that we support.”

Sue Last, Assistant Director of Patient Experience and Public Engagement at NHS Cambridgeshire, said: “This type of forum gives patients real power to take control over the health care that is provided within their community.”

Jenner Health Centre is one of the surgeries that is part of the newly-formed Borderline Commissioning Cluster introduced earlier this year, which will be responsible for buying in a range of health services in the area. This role has historically been undertaken by the Primary Care Trust.

Update from our first meeting

Our first meeting was held at the Practice on Tuesday 15 March 2011 at 7pm. 17 patients attended the meeting, during which Simon Stitson, Dr Andrew Anderson, Dr Adriaan van Biljon, Jackie Brisbane (NHS Cambridgeshire) and Dee Laws outlined the scope and the potential focus areas for a Patient Participation Group. Our next meeting will be held at the Practice on Tuesday 12 April 2011 at 7pm. The agenda for this meeting will be circulated in advance together with a request for a volunteer to become Chairperson of the Group. Update from our second meeting

Our second meeting was held on Tuesday 12 April 2011 at 7pm. The meeting was chaired by Dr Andrew Anderson, who was joined by Dr Adriaan van Biljon, Simon Stitson and Cindy DeShield from the Practice. Jackie Brisbane from NHS Cambridgeshire also attended the meeting together with 12 patients. Five apologies were received for the meeting. During the meeting we talked further about the role of the PPG and ways of forming and establishing the Group. We deferred nominations for official positions within the PPG until after our next meeting in May and invited Peter Leaton, Chair of Yaxley Group Practice Patient Association to talk to us. Three volunteers joined a working group looking at a cluster-wide patient survey. A copy of the minutes from our meeting are below. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 10 May 2011 at 7pm.
